The Father Judge and Holy Ghost Prep JV and varsity hockey teams squared off in their annual Thanksgiving Classic at Grundy Arena in Bristol, making a big donation before games.
Right after Holy Ghost edged Judge, 3-2, in the JV game, players from both programs skated onto the ice to present a $10,000 check to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
The money was raised through ticket sales and an anonymous donor.
Accepting the check was Jenna Bundy, the CHOP Foundation’s senior associate director for community and partnership events.
Bundy’s nephew, Jack Gavaghan, plays for Holy Ghost.
One reason CHOP was selected as the recipient is because Jim Shupe – whose son Justin plays for Judge – is president of Steamfitters Local Union 420, which is a top donor to the hospital.
Holy Ghost went on to win the varsity game, 6-2. ••
