The 76ers and Snipes teamed up to offer a $500 shopping spree at the sporting goods company’s store at Roosevelt Mall.
Ten youngsters from Youth Mentoring Partnership took part in the Dec. 17 event, with rookie 76ers star V.J. Edgecombe helping them select items.
Youth Mentoring Partnership provides 6th-12th graders with sports-based, prevention/intervention programs, year-round at no cost. Programming is delivered by professionally trained, trauma-informed coaches collaborating with school administrators, teachers, staff and coaches. Mentors are placed in five Mastery schools and three schools in Coatesville.
A DJ played music, the store was decorated with 76ers balloons and four members of the Sixers’ Squad 76 dancers made an appearance.
Each youth received Edgecombe’s autograph and a Snipes hoodie.
“It means a lot. Philly’s home now,” Edgecombe told reporters. “I’m really blessed to be in this position to give back.” ••
