Greater Kensington String Band performing Thursday morning at St. Matt’s

Greater Kensington String Band welcomes the public to attend its Mummers Parade warm-up session on Thursday, Jan. 1, from 9 to 9:15 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Matthew Parish, Battersby and Wellington streets.

The Rev. Patrick Welsh, pastor at St. Matt’s, will bless the band before members board buses to go to the parade.

GKSB, headquartered at 7235 Edmund St., will march ninth among 14 bands in the annual New Year’s Day parade.

The band has a jungle theme, Adventurers Beware!.

Shawn Blubaugh serves as captain of the band.

The Mummers Parade begins at 9 a.m. at City Hall and travels south on Broad Street to Washington Avenue. The parade will be broadcast on MeTV2 and WFMZ-TV Channel 69. Below is the order of march.

Fancy: Golden Sunrise

Wench Brigade: Froggy Carr, Pirates, Americans, Cara Liom, MGK, O’Malley, Oregon, Saints, Riverfront, Bryson.

Comic: Landi, Rich Porco’s Murray Comic Club, Goodtimers.
