GBCL OKs 2 zoning proposals

The Greater Bustleton Civic League considered two zoning cases at its recent meeting.

The owner of a house at 1957 President St. needs legalization of a garage that had already been converted to living space when he bought the property. The zoning code considers that a loss of a parking space. The civic group supported his effort by a vote of 17-0.

A Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing will take place on March 25.

Meanwhile, the owner of a property at 9533 Bustleton Ave. is looking to open three auto repair bays, with a fourth bay used for an office. The site was previously a car wash.

The owner attended the December meeting with a plan to continue to operate a car wash, but residents were opposed. Now, he will focus on performing inspections, oil changes and brake work, and will soundproof the back of the property with insulation. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, with a half-day on Saturday and closed Sunday.

A resident of nearby Wistaria Street said he opposed the request for a variance due to concerns over noise and traffic. Nonetheless, members were in support, 13-5.

A ZBA hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4.
