A 59-year-old Philadelphia man has been charged with homicide after authorities say he shot and killed his wife late Saturday night in Rockledge, Montgomery County.
Police responded to the 200 block of Huntingdon Pike at approximately 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 48-year-old Alisett Schubert outside a silver Nissan Murano with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators allege the shooter was her husband, Jose Luna.
According to court documents, Luna told investigators the couple had attended a party earlier in the day. He allegedly said he became upset because Schubert “disrespected him in front of others.”
Authorities say the two left the gathering and were inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred along Huntingdon Pike, a heavily traveled roadway that cuts through the small borough of Rockledge in eastern Montgomery County.
Court filings do not elaborate on what prompted the confrontation beyond Luna’s statement to investigators.
A SEPTA bus driver traveling along Huntingdon Pike told police he approached a vehicle stopped in the roadway and heard two or three “pops.” The driver reported seeing a man exit the front passenger seat, walk around the vehicle, open the driver’s side door, and a woman fall out onto the street.
That account, investigators say, helped establish the immediate sequence of events before officers arrived.
Police said Luna was found about a mile from the scene. As officers approached, investigators allege he put a firearm to his head and pulled the trigger in what was described as an apparent suicide attempt. The gun did not discharge because it had reportedly run out of ammunition.
He was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities recovered the firearm as evidence.
Luna is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime.
Under Pennsylvania law, first-degree murder is defined as an intentional killing that is willful, deliberate, and premeditated. A conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment or death, with any death sentence requiring a separate penalty phase before a jury.
Third-degree murder serves as an alternative count if premeditation is not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation remains ongoing as the case proceeds through Montgomery County’s court system. Luna remains in custody.
Rockledge is a borough of roughly 2,600 residents bordering Philadelphia and Abington Township. The shooting temporarily disrupted traffic along Huntingdon Pike as officers secured the scene and collected evidence.
