Philadelphia police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a fatal double shooting near Chickie’s & Pete’s on Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia. Authorities said Nasir Brooks surrendered on March 3, adding another development to the investigation into the October 2025 shooting that left one man dead and another injured.
The shooting occurred around 6:12 p.m. on Oct. 9 near the intersection of Broad Street and Packer Avenue. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found 23-year-old Hasson Mason suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the face and body. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A second 23-year-old man was located nearby in front of Chickie’s & Pete’s on the 1500 block of Packer Avenue with gunshot wounds to the torso. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and listed in stable condition, according to police.
Police previously arrested 22-year-old Abou Keita in November 2025 in connection with the shooting. Investigators located Keita inside a parked vehicle on the 2200 block of South Felton Street in Southwest Philadelphia and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related offenses tied to the Oct. 9 incident.
Investigators recovered at least 21 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic firearm during their examination of the scene. Police also found a four-door sedan that was still running and had been struck numerous times by gunfire, including damage to the driver’s side and rear windshield.
Authorities said surveillance cameras captured the vehicle moving roughly half a block before turning onto Broad Street and crashing into another car. Police reported that a woman inside the second vehicle was not injured.
Investigators believe one or both victims may have been inside the sedan when the gunfire began, based on the damage to the vehicle and its position at the scene.
With Brooks now in custody alongside Keita, both suspects face charges connected to the fatal shooting and the injury of the second victim. Authorities have not released details about a possible motive for the attack as the case proceeds through the Philadelphia court system.
