The Delaware Valley Veterans Home community on Tuesday celebrated the 100th birthday of resident Claire Devlin.

Claire’s party took place a day after her birthday. Residents, staff and family gathered for the celebration.

The Marine Corps League was in attendance, presenting Claire with a Happy Birthday poster and a challenge coin. Live musical entertainment was provided by The Esteem Trio.

The crowd sang Happy Birthday and took part in a toast for Claire. It was raining outside, but The Esteem Trio sang You are My Sunshine, as Claire sang along to that song and all the other oldies.

Claire was born on March 2, 1926, in Hazleton, the fifth of nine children. She graduated from St. Gabriel High School. She worked as a nurse until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving in stateside Naval hospitals for three years during the Korean War.

Claire and her husband, Bob, married in 1957 and had four children. ••
