Philadelphia Officer Nicolas Verrecchio Dies After Fox Chase Motorcycle Crash

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer died Sunday evening after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle along Verree Road in the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.

Officer Nicolas Verrecchio, 26, was riding his personal motorcycle around 5 p.m. on the 8500 block of Verree Road when the crash occurred, according to Philadelphia police.

Investigators said the motorcycle struck another vehicle whose driver was attempting to make a U-turn at the time of the collision. Emergency responders transported Verrecchio to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police have not announced any citations or charges as the investigation into the crash continues.

Verree Road is a heavily traveled corridor in Northeast Philadelphia that runs through residential sections of Fox Chase and connects several neighborhoods to major routes such as Roosevelt Boulevard. Traffic along the roadway can be busy during late afternoon and early evening hours.

Verrecchio joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 2021 and was assigned to the department’s 18th District, which covers parts of Northwest Philadelphia.

In a statement following the officer’s death, the Philadelphia Police Department said, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Officer Verrecchio’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time.”

The department’s Crash Investigation Division is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision as investigators work to determine the sequence of events that led to the crash.

Verrecchio’s death has prompted tributes from fellow officers and city officials as the department mourns the loss of one of its younger members. Authorities have not yet released additional details as the investigation remains active.
