Kyle Lewis, the city recycling program director, spoke at last week’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting.
Lewis played “Recycle or Reject,” asking members whether a particular item should go into a recycling bucket or the trash.
Paper cups are new to the recycling list. Pizza boxes are recyclable, but the bottom of the box should be trashed if it is greasy.
Lewis recommended that people visit sanitation convenience centers at 8401 State Road (at Ashburner Street) or 3901 N. Delaware Ave. to get a recycling bucket lid to prevent recyclables from blowing away.
Some in the crowd complained that sanitation workers throw recycling buckets, causing them to break. Lewis said workers are told to put the empty bucket “where they got it from.”
Some LCA members left disappointed that there were no recycling buckets available, as the group expected.
