All Star Labor Classic Sunday at Holy Family

Four area high school basketball players will play in the Philadelphia Building Trades’ All Star Labor Classic, which will take place on Sunday, April 12, at Holy Family University.

Local players are Rocco Westfield, who played on Father Judge’s back-to-back Catholic League championship teams; Frankford’s Doron Ross and Janeliss Laboy; and St. Hubert’s Luciana D’Andrea.

Admission is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

A Labor vs. Legends game will begin at noon.

The City Boys vs. Suburban Boys is up next at 1:15 p.m. The City Girls vs. Suburban Girls follows at 2:30.

Mayor Cherelle Parker will be in attendance.

All high school players receive $1,000 toward a college scholarship.

Proceeds from sponsorships of the All Star Labor Classic will benefit The Superhero Project nonprofit, which supports parents of prematurely born babies and all newborns facing medical challenges.

D’Andrea was among four winners of the Dennis Hill Memorial Scholarship, given to those who raised the most money for the charity. D’Andrea and three others will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

In all, this year’s event has raised $260,579.

On Thursday night, players were honored at a dinner at Sprinkler Fitters Local 692. Speakers included former St. Joe’s coach Phil Martelli; former 76ers guard World B. Free; Maddy Siegrist, a former Villanova great who plays for the Dallas Wings of the WNBA; and Kelly Gallagher, an Archbishop Ryan graduate and founder of the Superhero Project.
