Holmesburg Civic postpones vote for food truck

The Holmesburg Civic Association last week put off a vote on a businessman’s proposal to open a food truck at his property at 7600 State Road.

Gerald Guzinski, who was joined by attorney David Orphanides, needs a variance so a food truck operator can sell breakfast and lunch along a largely industrial stretch of land.

Some residents at the Sept. 8 meeting were worried that clients of a nearby methadone clinic would hang out on site.

Rich Dooley, owner of Fluke’s Irish Pub, pointed out that Guzinski did not drop off a flier at his bar/restaurant before the meeting.

Dooley, whose establishment would be affected by a food truck, noted that the endless I-95 construction is hurting his business. He reminded civic members that he contributes to the community and sponsored a Holmesburg Boys and Girls Club scoreboard.

“Vote no, everybody, please,” he said.

A hearing is scheduled for November in front of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The city has indicated it wants to use the land to build a prison.
