Abduction attempt reported in Fox Chase

A 9-year-old girl who was walking home from Fox Chase Elementary School on Sept. 8 escaped an abduction attempt, according to police.

It occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on the 8100 block of Elberon Ave. The girl was walking home when she noticed an unknown man following her. When she began to run, the man attempted to grab her by the arm, but she escaped and reported the incident to her mother.

Capt. Michael Gormley, commander of the 7th Police District, told members of the Fox Chase Homeowners Association and Town Watch last Wednesday night that the suspect was last seen running southbound on Elberon toward Rhawn Street. The man had a unique appearance with red hair and a sweatshirt or jacket that he wore despite the summer-like heat that day. The man was further described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall and thin, wearing blue jeans.
