City pools now open for summer

As of July 1, all city-operated pools will have been opened for the summer season following a two-week kickoff program. Pools are now open at numerous Northeast Philadelphia recreation centers and public facilities including Max Myers, Fox Chase, Vogt, Lincoln High, Simpson, Jardel, American Legion park in Tacony, Lawncrest, Mitchell, Jacobs and Houseman.

The city operates 70 pools from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends. Philadelphia Parks and Recreation has hired about 800 lifeguards and pool maintenance aides and is providing free swim lessons to children. Parents can visit a neighborhood recreation center to register children for lessons. ••
