Local seniors clean up area around Decatur Elementary

The students and staff at Stephen Decatur Elementary School in Parkwood can thank five dedicated senior citizens for seeing a litter-free area when they arrive for school each week.

Walter and Margaret Philippi, Bob Parncutt and Tom and Mary Lou Klein — all 70-somethings — have cleaned the area around Academy and Torrey roads every Monday morning for several years.

As part of the effort, they separate recyclables from the trash. ••
