Car crashed into NE nail salon, killing patron

One Northeast nail salon patron was killed and three others injured when a senior woman drove her car through the business’ front wall and struck them on March 31.

Myra Forman, 74, was inside Cindy’s Nail Salon at 9861 Bustleton Ave. at about 11:50 a.m. when a 1999 Ford Contour entered the parking lot and proceeded toward a spot in front of the building. But instead of stepping on the brake pedal, the car’s operator, a 72-year-old woman, stepped on the gas.

The car burst through the facade and kept going until finally coming to a stop near the rear of the shop. The car struck Forman, of the 9700 block of Chapelcroft St., as well as three other women. Forman was pronounced dead at the scene five minutes later. The other victims, ages 67, 40 and 38, were taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to the same hospital for evaluation while her passenger, a 61-year-old woman, was uninjured. No criminal charges were filed. ••
