Man attempts to rob ATM patron, leaves with no cash, fake PIN

Surveillance photo

Crime isn’t as easy as it may seem, even if you’ve got a gun in your hand and a prototypical scowl. Just ask the guy who tried to stick up an ATM patron outside a Summerdale bank on Feb. 24.

And if you find him, let police know about it. They’d like to have a word with him, too.

Surveillance video recorded the whole incident. Shortly after 9 p.m., the unknown robber approached a man who was using the cash machine at Wells Fargo, 700 Adams Ave., but the bank patron wasn’t quite done with his transactions.

The robber waited patiently behind the victim for a minute or so. When the victim turned to leave, the robber pulled a black handgun from his pants and demanded money from the ATM user. Problem was, the victim had no cash. Apparently, he hadn’t made a withdrawal. So the robber walked away.

Moments later, however, the crook appeared to have another idea. He approached the same victim and demanded his ATM card, along with the PIN number. The victim surrendered the card, but he gave the wrong PIN number. The robber fled the area, likely believing that he would have access to the victim’s bank accounts.

The robber was last seen near Tabor Road and Foulkrod Street. He was described as black, 16 to 18 years old, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He wore a black hooded jacket, tan pants and white shoes. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view the surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
