Passenger critical after Burholme DUI crash

Burholme resident Denzel Mendoza was just blocks from his home when he flipped his car and crashed into a house early Sunday morning, leaving a woman passenger with critical injuries and himself behind bars.

Police allege that Mendoza, 22, of the 700 block of Brighton St., was drunk driving.

The accident occurred at about 2:47 a.m. at Oxford Avenue and Knorr Street. When police arrived, they found a mangled 2007 Chrysler 300 sitting on its roof in the yard of a corner house. Fire department rescuers extricated the driver and his 25-year-old passenger from the car and took them to Albert Einstein Medical Center. The woman was listed in critical condition with undisclosed injuries. Authorities did not disclose her name. Mendoza was treated for minor cuts and bruises, police said.

Mendoza was later arrested for DUI and related charges. ••
