Oct. 11 hearing for suspect in Pep Boys car meetup

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced that Deonte Vincent, 25, is charged with multiple offenses for his alleged participation in a dangerous vehicle meetup that occurred Saturday night in the Pep Boys parking lot, 7422 Bustleton Ave.

Philadelphia police responded to a tip about the vehicle meetup. As PPD units arrived, suspects began fleeing in their vehicles in multiple directions. Responding officers managed to stop and detain several suspects. Vincent, who was driving a blue Dodge Charger, allegedly ignored officers’ commands to stop and sped toward several officers, nearly striking them, before hitting a red Dodge Durango that had stopped in compliance with law enforcement as he exited an alleyway. The collision injured one of the witnesses sitting in the stopped vehicle.

Officers were able to record the defendant’s license plate before he escaped, linking the defendant to the vehicle in question. He was subsequently charged with, among other charges, two counts of Aggravated Assault. He will be prosecuted by the DAO’s Carjacking Enforcement Unit.

Vincent, of the 7000 block of Torresdale Ave., has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 11.

About 50 cars were involved in the meetup, which took place about 9:30 p.m. Officers issued nine citations under the Nuisance Car Ordinance and 15 citations to spectators.

Anyone with information is asked to call 215-686-TIPS. ••
