Jimmy Dillon Named New Head Coach for Archbishop Ryan Girls’ Basketball

Archbishop Ryan High School officially announced Jimmy Dillon as the new head coach for its girl’s basketball team on March 24. Dillon has a wealth of basketball experience as both a player and a coach. He is expected to help the team rebuild after a difficult season.

Jimmy Dillon graduated from Holy Ghost Prep in 1996. He played college basketball for four years at the University of Notre Dame. After college, he played professionally in Europe.

In addition to playing, Dillon has spent many years helping young athletes. He runs Hoops 24-7 Basketball Academy, where he has worked with youth players for nearly 20 years. The academy is based in Northeast Philadelphia, where Dillon has lived his whole life. He is also a former Pennsylvania State Senator, which only adds to his leadership experience outside of sports.

Not to mention, Dillon will be coaching his two daughters at Archbishop Ryan: Reese is part of the class of 2027, and Aubrey will graduate in 2029.

Last season, the Archbishop Ryan girls’ basketball team struggled. The Ragdolls won only two games in the Philadelphia Catholic League, one of the toughest high school basketball leagues in the area. Their two wins came against St. Hubert and Little Flower. With a record like that, the program needed new leadership and a stronger direction.

Now, with Dillon as head coach, the school is aiming for a fresh start. His past experience as a player in college and overseas, as well as his work with youth through his academy, shows he understands how to train and support players. Coaching his own daughters also means he has a strong personal connection to the team’s success.

Dillon’s main focus is to build a culture of hard work and team pride at Archbishop Ryan. He wants the basketball program to reflect values that players, families, and the school can support.
