Franklin Mills roads will receive $1.5 million upgrade

Potholes in Franklin Mills’ driveways and parking lots generate a lot of neighborhood complaints, according to talk last week at the Millbrook Civic Association’s meeting at Calvary Athletic Association on Deerpath Lane.

But the company that manages the huge shopping mall at Knights and Academy roads is going to do something about it, said Mike Bremser, the association’s secretary.

Bremser told members at the group’s April 29 session that he sits on the Franklin Mills Advisory Council and that the mall’s manager plans to spend $1.5 million upgrading the paving at the site’s three main entrances. The mall is managed by Simon Property Group of Indianapolis.

Bremser said the company is going to spend another half-million dollars on the mall’s roof. He added a new Walmart is expected to be open by August.

Across Woodhaven Road at Knights Plaza, there will be an improvement of another kind — a new grocery store.

John Kradzinski, the association’s president, said a representative of Marx Realty, the shopping center’s owner, told him Save a Lot will move into vacant retail space in the center.

He said a Marx rep will attend the association’s June meeting to talk about the grocery store and other changes. Kradzinski said a new deli also will be opening up at the plaza. ••
