Following the opening reception of her exhibit, Ghada Khunji held an engaging studio portrait session at Temple University’s Charles Library.
Ghada invited the students of Temple to visit the library and have their portraits taken. The artist uses a photography medium in most of her works to showcase the human condition and individual identities. As shown on her social media platforms, the Arab artist attempts to highlight her Arab heritage.
The Akkas portrait sessions held today were very intimate. Ghada encouraged the subjects not to smile, sharing that “when you smile, your eyes become smaller. You lose your soul.”
Ghada is a very passionate artist who strives to stay connected to her Arab identity. Others with similar identities are able to feel seen and appreciated through her works.
The works will potentially be included in Ghada’s next exhibit. She is also doing another portrait studio session at the University of Pennsylvania on April 12.
