Little Susie’s Pie Shop Review

Open in three locations around the city, Little Susie’s Coffee and Pie is a local bakery selling a variety of pies and bagels. The pie shop also offers specialized coffee drinks, like a S’mores latte, traditional cappuccinos, and cold brews. They also make fresh orange juice and sell lemonade and iced tea.

Little Susie’s makes both sweet and savory pies, but one of their most famous choices is the glazed cherry pie. The filling is made of real cherries in cherry syrup and is quite sweet. They top the pie crust with an almond glaze that offsets the over-sweetness of the pie, balancing the pastry and making it all the more delicious. Their apple pie is another great choice. Filled with apple pieces that are coated in cinnamon and other spices, the pie is encrusted with sugar, bringing out a pleasant taste from the cinnamon and the sugar. The crusts themselves are cooked perfectly, not too dry or too flaky.

There is also a considerable number of choices if you prefer more savory options. Their chicken pot pie is very traditional, with pieces of chicken, peas, carrots, and small corn kernels in some gravy. Though the pie itself does not have a glaze on the outside, the inside is very buttery, and the pie crust is again cooked well. Another fan favorite is the mushroom and Swiss pie. It’s very simple, filled with sliced mushroom pieces and Swiss cheese in butter. It’s a great option for those who are vegetarian, and it’s quite filling.

Little Susie’s is open daily from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., though pie selections tend to run out as the day goes on. They bake all their pies the day before, giving their customers a fresh taste of the baked good. You can visit them at one of their locations on Lehigh & Belgrade in Olde Richmond, in Old City at Second & Chestnut, or in Center City at Chadwick & Moore.
