Holy Unpaved Streets, Batman

Let’s see. Mayor Parker had a $6.8 billion budget handed to her. So, please tell me why the streets department scraped the top layers off the streets in my neighborhood over two months ago and they haven’t repaved it since then. The current rains have caused deep holes to form in the streets. Some are as deep as 6 inches. Can Mayor Parker find the money from a $6.8 billion budget to finally repave these streets? I will let you know. Tune in next bat time … same bat channel.

Importance of school choice

As a mother of two children and a resident of Northeast Philadelphia, I can attest to the importance of school choice in Philadelphia. I chose private education for my two children primarily for safety, smaller class sizes and academic rigor. Both of my children were in need of a more challenging and supportive environment to help them thrive.

I firmly believe that every school is not suitable for every child. Families should have the opportunity to decide where to send their children based on reasons beyond their ZIP code. Education is personal and this fundamental choice matters deeply to our family.

Being able to afford private school would not be possible without scholarship assistance. When we began our search for schools, affording tuition on our income seemed impossible until I discovered the Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia. While the investment may be small for some, it’s life-changing for us.

As tuition continues to rise alongside the cost of living, school choice and the ability to afford private education means everything to us. Like all parents, we want the best for our children. Sometimes, we simply need assistance to reach our goals and help provide our children with the education, safety and opportunities that they deserve.

I am incredibly grateful to CSFP for their support and the positive impact they’ve had on our family’s educational journey. As conversations about school choice continue across Philadelphia, let’s remember that education is not one size fits all.
