Letters to the Editor

Best president ever

The reason for this letter is that I’m so sick of Democrats putting my President Trump down, as he has done very great things for us American people and is still doing very great things. I think the Democrats are jealous of Trump because they could never be like Trump, as Trump is the best president we’ve ever had.

Farley should heed Rhoda’s advice

John Farley, you tell Jewish Democrats to leave their party and “find a party that respects Jews and Jewish values.” Before I respond to that, I must first question your knowledge of Jewish values. Did you learn them in Catholic schools? Did you attend Hebrew school? Have you studied Torah, Talmud and other Jewish texts? Listened to rabbinic sermons? Attended a Passover seder or High Holiday services? In an episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, the character Rhoda Morgenstern said, “Speak not what you know not of.” Please heed this advice going forward. Now, tell us what party respects Jews and Jewish values. Would that be the party of Trump? The one whose cruelty to the American people grows worse by the day? The party that breaks laws to deny basic human rights? The one obsessed with randomly rounding up and deporting residents and even citizens of this country, including your fellow Catholics from Central and South America? The administration that is rife with antisemites who praise Nazi sympathizers and try to whitewash American history? Those, Mr. Farley, are not Jewish values. So while I’ll fight for your right to your opinion, I question both its validity and its purpose.

Congestion City

The front-page story of your June 4 issue mentions about a complaint that Northeast Philadelphia is becoming “congestion city” due to the large number of unnecessary speed bumps. This is true, especially with the excessive number of speed bumps being installed on Bustleton Ave. The question is why our representatives allow this. When I complained about the stupidity of installing four speed bumps over a distance of only two-tenths of a mile on Tomlinson Road (west of Bustleton), the response from Councilman O’Neill’s office was that, “The city engineers decided it.” What allows some unelected bureaucrats to turn the Northeast into “congestion city,” and why are our representatives silent?
