Fox Chase Cancer Center held a news conference to publicly announce the completion of its new Oncology Satellite Pharmacy, an advanced facility designed to enhance the safety, accuracy and capacity of chemotherapy treatment preparation.
Dr. Robert Uzzo, president and CEO, Fox Chase Cancer Center, was joined by state Sen. Tina Tartaglione, state Rep. Sean Dougherty and Sean Roche, district director for state Sen. Joe Picozzi.
Pharmacy director Dapo Amosu led a tour of the new 3,360-square-foot pharmacy, which opened in March after passing rigorous regulatory inspections. It significantly increases Fox Chase’s capacity to prepare chemotherapy treatments, now capable of mixing more than 500 treatments per day, tripling the previous capacity.
Features include six biological safety cabinets and three laminar flow hoods; IV Workflow Management System with remote verification and photo documentation; and a sterile, safe environment for the handling of hazardous medications.
The project was supported in part by a $1.5 million state grant, with a total budget of $3.98 million.
Uzzo thanked pharmacy staff for keeping all medicines stocked through the time when the industry was dealing with supply chain issues. ••
