Funeral services set for Mike Meehan, former Republican City Committee chair

Funeral services will be held this week for Michael P. Meehan, a lawyer and former chairman of the Republican City Committee. Meehan, a lifelong resident of Somerton, died Friday at 69 after a long illness.

Meehan is survived by his wife, Mary (née McNally); his sons, Michael and Joseph (Nicole); his eight siblings: Patricia Sinnott (Jim), Marianne Di Donato (Ed), William A. Jr. (Coleen), Catherine Haas (Mark), Christopher (Lynda), Austin (Trish), Margaret Mary and Elizabeth Finocchio (Tom); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Meehan was a 1974 graduate of La Salle High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Villanova University, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Delaware Law School.

Meehan remained chairman of the Republican City Committee until 2019. His late father, Billy, headed the party for more than 30 years before his death in 1994. Austin Meehan, Mike’s grandfather, was the city sheriff.

Meehan’s viewing will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, followed by his funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be appreciated to La Salle College High School, 8605 W. Cheltenham Ave., Wyndmoor, PA 19038 or Redeemer Health Office of Philanthropy, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. ••
