Roosevelt Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, 7800 Bustleton Ave., last week hosted a grand opening event for Lexington Renal, its state-of-the-art, in-facility dialysis unit.
The open house featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments and tours. Lexington Renal is the first to offer both in-patient and out-patient services in the Northeast.
Lexington Renal is an 18-chair unit that complements Roosevelt’s chronic kidney disease management program. It provides care and services to patients with CKD and related diagnoses, aiming to preserve kidney function and prevent further decline. There is plenty of natural light and an isolation chair, available as needed for patients with certain conditions, and the unit has the capability to treat patients who are tracheostomy dependent.
Mike Smith, division president of Marquis, parent of Roosevelt Rehab, noted the brightness of the facility, the televisions for each patient and the early success of the new service.
“They have a one-stop shop right here in Northeast Philadelphia,” he said. “Our outcomes are second to none.”
Among those in attendance was Charlie Kueny, president of the Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.
Jimmy Jacob is administrator of Lexington Renal. He explained that Roosevelt Rehab residents – those in short-term rehab and permanent residents – are able to use Lexington Renal. So are members of the public. Most insurances cover the treatment.
Hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Hours are expected to be added on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and to be extended until 7 p.m.
There are comfortable reclining chairs that are heated and offer back massages, along with nearby TVs that include cable channels.
Patients will receive education on treatment options and disease management, skilled nursing services, nutritional support and counseling and resources from a social worker.
Jacob welcomes people to use the new service due, in part, to the expertise of the staff, including medical director Dr. Michael Yoslov, a board-certified nephrologist.
“The team I’ve assembled is fantastic,” he said. “It’s a very seasoned crew.”
