Unions held a recent rally in support of district attorney candidate Pat Dugan at Teamsters Local 830.
Dugan is running on the Republican ticket against Democratic DA Larry Krasner. The incumbent beat the challenger in the primary, but Dugan won enough Republican write-in votes to earn the GOP nod in the general election.
Among those in attendance at the Oct. 18 rally were Dan Grace, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 830; Wayne Miller, business manager of Sprinkler Fitters Local 692; state Sen. Joe Picozzi; Republican City Committee Chairman Vince Fenerty; and John Toomey, whose 15-year-old son Sean was shot to death in 2022 as he carried a case of water into his Wissinoming house.
Dugan said he resigned as a Municipal Court judge due to what he sees as various Krasner shortcomings.
Dugan contended that Krasner does not train new assistant district attorneys.
“They have no clue and no support,” he said.
Dugan criticized Krasner’s handling of Keon King, suspected in the recent abduction and murder of Kada Scott.
King was arrested in April in an unrelated case for kidnapping and strangulation, and prosecutors asked for a bail of $999,999, but a magistrate set it at $200,000, and King went free after posting 10 percent of the reduced total. The victim and a witness did not show up for court, and the DA’s office dropped the case.
Dugan pointed to a video of the kidnapping and said the case should have proceeded even without a victim or witness. He also said Krasner should have appealed the decision to lower the bail to a judge, who is available 24 hours, seven days a week.
“You’ve got blood on your hands on this one,” Dugan said of Krasner. ••
