A look at Greyhound’s local garage

City Councilman Mike Driscoll recently visited Greyhound’s maintenance garage at 2625 Wheatsheaf Lane in Port Richmond.

Driscoll toured the site with Matt Maglio, vice president of Greyhound’s Northeast Region, and garage manager Taylor Grillo. The Northeast Region goes as far west as Missouri and as far south as South Carolina.

The councilman saw the company’s maintenance operations and boarded a motorcoach to see upgraded features.

Flix North America is the parent of Greyhound Lines.

Maglio, who is based in Connecticut, and Grillo explained to Driscoll that Greyhound seeks to provide safe, affordable and convenient travel. Buses leave on time at a rate of 96 percent.

The garage opened about five years ago and provides good access to I-95. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

In all, 173 buses come to the garage for fuel, interior and exterior cleaning and maintenance.

There are about 150 employees, including 103 drivers. The drivers and mechanics are members of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

The buses are manufactured by Prevost, based in Quebec, Canada, at a cost of $650,000 to $700,000. They usually run for about 1.5 million miles. ••
