Fox Chase hires breast surgeon

Fox Chase Cancer Center announced the hiring of Walker Lyons, MD, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Breast Surgery. In addition to seeing patients at the main campus and Fox Chase – Buckingham, Lyons will provide services at Temple Health – Jeanes Campus and Temple Health – Chestnut Hill Hospital Campus.

Lyons joins Fox Chase upon completion of the Breast Oncology Fellowship at the center. Prior to this, Lyons was a general surgery resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was awarded the Herbert E. Cohn, MD, Technical Excellence Award, which is awarded to a resident deemed to have the best technical skill. He was also recognized by medical students four years in a row with the Resident Excellence in Teaching award.

Lyons received his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Davidson College.

In addition to being a member of multiple professional societies, including The American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons and the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, Lyons has contributed to numerous publications, presentations and research projects.  

Lyons began his tenure at Fox Chase on Sept. 1. ••
