The Philadelphia Protestant Home last week hosted its annual Veterans Day lunch.

There are about 50 veterans who live or work at PPH.

Bill Conaway, director of community relations, was the emcee.

Guests included state Reps. Anthony Bellmon and Jared Solomon, who is chairman of the House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee; 2nd Police District community relations officer Mark Mroz, who led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance; and former 2nd district Capt. Marc Metellus.

Resident Audrey Alston, a veteran, sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

Seventh- and eighth-graders from St. Cecilia, joined by teacher Kelly Roney, served lunch to the veterans. Students taking part were Jayden Bennin, John Bennin, Lucas Free, Nadrey Odehouri, Aneisha Ishaq, Fiona King, Cara McGettigan and Katie Cole.

Cara read her Patriot Pen essay, while John and Aneisha explained the table set for one for POW and MIA. ••
