A number of elected officials gathered at Caring for Friends, 12271 Townsend Road, to prepare meals for the needy at Thanksgiving.

Vince Schiavone, CEO of the 50-year-old agency (founded by his mom Rita as Aid for Friends), said Caring for Friends distributed about 12,000 turkeys and 13,000 meals for Thanksgiving.

Schiavone said the homebound elderly served by Caring for Friends have to divide their fixed incomes on rent, utilities, medicine and food.

“Our seniors are hidden hungry,” he said.

Lawmakers who attended the Nov. 24 event were state Sen. Joe Picozzi and state Reps. Joe Hohenstein, Martina White, Sean Dougherty, Pat Gallagher, Ed Neilson, Danilo Burgos, Jose Giral, Amen Brown, Regina Young and Greg Scott.

“Everything we get goes out,” Schiavone said. ••
