The 2nd Police District Advisory Council met last week.
Guests included Capt. Andrew DiSanto, community relations officer Mark Mroz and Inspector Robert Heinzeroth, new commander of the Northeast Police Division. Heinzeroth replaced the recently retired Inspector Frank Bachmayer.
Mroz said almost all crimes in the district were down in 2025, except for stolen autos and retail thefts. The district has also increased the number of its stops for truancy and curfew violations.
Already, there have been three homicides in the district in 2026. Two people were shot and killed in a domestic incident on the 7100 block of Oakland St. on Jan. 1. A man was shot to death in his tow truck on Jan. 11 on the 2100 block of Knorr St.
Mroz said a ceremony will be held to mark the one-year anniversary of the deadly plane crash on Cottman Avenue. The ceremony, honoring victims, is tentatively set for Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Macy’s at Roosevelt Mall.
