Banner replacement on business corridors

State Rep. Jared Solomon held a news conference on Feb. 12 at Castor Avenue and Disston Street to unveil new banner installations as part of his goal to beautify business corridors.

Solomon was joined by Kimberly Thomas, executive director of the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association. Contractors Quin Gilyard and his son of the same name, of Fine Home Design, are installing the banners.

Solomon said that, when he took office in 2017, he found “a neighborhood left behind,” one that had lost hope, had “zero investment” from the city, state and federal governments and needed energy and love.

Now, he said there is a “renaissance” that is continuing with the replacement of banners and trash cans on Castor, Bustleton, Cottman and Rising Sun avenues. The big piece of the renaissance, he said, will be $50 million in improvements to Castor and Cottman avenues. ••
