Father Judge on Sunday defeated Neumann-Goretti, 55-52, at the Palestra to capture its second consecutive Catholic League basketball championship.

“I’m just so proud of our guys,” coach Chris Roantree said.

Derrick Morton-Rivera led the Crusaders with 14 points. Max Moshinski and Nazir Tyler added 10 points apiece.

Moshinski was happy to see the Judge student section dwarf the size of the N-G student section.

“It was great seeing all the blue in the stands,” he said.

The Saints were led by Marquis Newson (19 points), Alassan N’Diaye (17) and DeShawn Yates (11).

Judge, the sixth seed, beat Roman Catholic in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Archbishop Wood in the semifinals before toppling N-G. The Crusaders lost to the Saints in the regular season.

Judge will play in the District 12 Class 6A championship game and the PIAA tournament. The Crusaders are the defending PIAA champions. States start on March 7. ••
