TBYN welcomes Phila. Corporation for Aging

The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association last week welcomed a representative of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.

The agency was formed in 1973 and is funded by, among others, the city, state and federal governments and Pennsylvania Lottery proceeds.

PCA, based at 642 N. Broad St., offers services for people 60 and older, along with disabled adults.

The PCA Community Cafe provides 10 free meals a month to people 60 and older who live in the following ZIP codes: 19124, 19135, 19136, 19137, 19149 and 19152.

Other PCA assistance includes home repairs; senior center partnerships; volunteer and employment opportunities; health insurance information; meal distributions/home deliveries; a caregiver support group; health and wellness programs; an emergency fund; and fruit and vegetable vouchers.

Call the PCA helpline at 215-765-9040 or visit pcacares.org

In other news from the March 16 meeting:

• The Rev. Benjamin Fisher, pastor of The Life Church, 6750 Roosevelt Blvd., outlined preliminary plans to add housing to the campus. The site is the former Our Lady of Ransom Parish. Fisher has been using the church since 2020. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia houses its archives in the former school. The former rectory and convent are empty, and that’s where Fisher plans to offer 40 units of housing for senior citizens and veterans. The pastor welcomed people to attend the weekly service on Sundays at 10 a.m. For more information, call 215-668-4848 or visit thelifechurchphilly.org

• Sgt. William Whartenby provided a crime update for the 2nd Police District. Whartenby will be retiring in December after 37½ years. ••
