Members of the Normandy Civic Association are firming up plans for a May 2 neighborhood reunion at the FOP lodge on Caroline Road.
During the organization’s Oct. 9 meeting at the Norcom Community Center, John Wisniewski, the civic’s president, said the get-together will feature a dinner, bottled beer, bottled wine, a deejay, 50–50 raffle and a silent auction. Ticket prices are $40. The menu is still to be determined.

Olsen said she expects the event will cost $4,000, and Wisniewski said he hopes the ticket price will cover those costs. Board members also said they are looking for volunteers to help out with the reunion and other neighborhood programs.
Wisniewski encouraged residents to come to their local Police Service Area meetings at the Norcom Community Center, 10980 Norcom Road, at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month. PSA meetings give residents opportunities to get updates on local crimes and to give police information on problems they’ve encountered. He also asked members to call police anytime they see crime occurring and to keep calling.
“We have to call 911,” he said.
Police detectives currently are looking into a recent burglary on the 2800 block of Nightingale Road, Wisniewski said.
Vice President Barry Rusch asked members to consider his proposal to put together a guide to neighborhood professionals, who could buy mentions in the book for $25. Many members liked the idea, but no decision was made.
Secretary Michele Borbidge suggested renting some equipment that would make automatic calls to Normandy residents to remind them of the civic’s monthly meetings. That would add to the civic’s monthly fliers that are distributed door-to-door.
Danny Alvarez, the GOP candidate for district attorney, briefly spoke and promised to fight corruption in city government if elected, even if that makes him unpopular.
“I’m very comfortable with not having friends,” he said.
The civic association’s members will next meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Norcom Community Center, 10980 Norcom Road. There will be no December session. ••
