Somerton man arrested in bank robbery

Nicholas Giorno

A Somerton man who allegedly robbed a Bensalem bank on June 10 was arrested one day later in a New Jersey motel.

Bensalem Township police say that Nicholas Giorno Jr., 42, of the 1200 block of Poquessing Creek Drive, entered the TD Bank at Street and Mechanicsville roads shortly after noon on June 10 and handed a threatening note to a teller.

He “implied he had a handgun and ‘would start shooting’ but never displayed any weapon,” police said. He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives identified Giorno as the prime suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

They located him in an undisclosed Mt. Ephraim, N.J., motel and arrested him late on June 11 with the help of Mt. Ephraim police. Details of the capture were not disclosed.

Giorno remains in custody in New Jersey while awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania to face robbery and related charges. ••
