Kiwanis raises $500 for Protestant Home

Twenty-two young people recently helped the Kiwanis Club of Phil-Mont raise $500 for the Philadelphia Protestant Home.

The fundraiser has taken place each fall for more than a decade at the Protestant Home, at 6500 Tabor Ave. in Lawndale.

Kathy McDonough, a Kiwanis member and teacher, recruited her St. William Elementary School students to volunteer at the breakfast held each year. St. William closed in June, but McDonough asked students if they were still willing to help, and she received a good response.

Students from St. Cecilia, Presentation BVM, Mayfair Elementary, Roman Catholic, Tacony Academy Charter, Bishop McDevitt, Antonia Pantoja Charter and Cedarbrook Middle School assisted at the Nov. 3 event. The youths served pancakes and sausage to guests, who paid for the meals that were prepared in the PPH kitchen by Kiwanis members. ••
