Tip prompts arrest in armed robbery

A broadcast of surveillance video of an armed robbery has led to the arrest of a Frankford man, police said.

On Sept. 4, at 6:40 p.m., a four-door Honda Civic occupied by three men was stopped on the 1200 block of Harrison St. Two of the men exited the car and entered a convenience store on the 1300 block of Fillmore St. One of the men was armed with a gun.

Once inside the store, the armed man went to the counter and demanded money while the other remained in the rear of the store. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes, the robbers fled in the vehicle driven by the third man, and headed toward Harrison Street.

On Sept. 14, a surveillance video was released to the news media and was aired on local stations. A day later, an anonymous phone tip was received identifying Zachary Greene, 26, as a suspect in the robbery.

Greene, of the 4900 block of Saul St., was arrested Oct. 19. He is charged with robbery, weapons and related offenses. He remains in custody at the Philadelphia Detention Center on State Road in lieu of $75,000 bail. ••
