7th PDAC recognizes Officers of the Month

The 7th Police District Advisory Council recognized Officers Gregory Segaline and Thomas Carpino on Oct. 18 as the district’s latest Officers of the Month for capturing a suspected mobile phone store burglar.

On Sept. 29 at about 8:15 a.m., police were called to the T-Mobile Wireless store on the 10000 block of Roosevelt Blvd. after a boy was seen breaking into the business. The burglar was gone when police arrived at the scene, but the store’s front windows were broken and a brick was lying on the showroom floor.

Witnesses described the burglar as a male wearing a white hoodie sweat shirt and a black Batman backpack.

While surveying the area, Segaline spotted the suspect at the rear of the 9900 block of Roosevelt Blvd. He was removing a pair of earphones from their packaging. Seeing the officer, the suspect dropped the earphones, the backpack and other items, then ran through residential properties along the 9900 block of Sandy Road, where Carpino captured him.

Police identified the suspect as a 14-year-old boy and recovered stolen merchandise valued at about $4,000 as well as the suspect’s discarded clothing. The youth was charged with burglary and related offenses. ••
