Five vehicles are torched early Sunday

Five parked vehicles in the Bustleton and Bell’s Corner sections of the Northeast were set afire early Sunday, according to Philadelphia police.

Firefighters were called to the 8200 block of Castor Ave. in Bell’s Corner at about 3:20 a.m. to extinguish a fire involving a handicapped-accessible van. Police also responded to the scene and began to receive reports of several other vehicle fires, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police department spokeswoman.

The other locations included vehicles in the 9600 block of Bustleton Ave., the 9700 block of Birwood St., the 9800 block of Clark St. and the 1900 block of Lott St. All are within three blocks of the 7th Police District station in Bustleton.

On Lott Street, the flames spread to a nearby home, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported, Russell said.

Investigators reportedly detected that an accelerant, such as gasoline, had been used to set the fires. Police have not named any suspects or motive. ••
