A man walking his dog in Pennypack Park on Friday found a pile of dismembered animal remains that authorities believe likely has been sacrificed as part of a religious service.
Police were called to the area of Lexington and Solly avenues at 11:54 p.m. on Friday after the dog-walker found several trash bags and a box that had been dumped there and contained “chicken and goat parts,” said Officer Jillian Russell, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman.
Patrol officers notified the Pennsylvania SPCA’s animal control unit, which recovered the remains.
Police have found no evidence that the animals were subjected to illegal abuse, although they were dumped illegally on public property. No information has been released about those who may have dumped the carcasses. ••
