Police nab Northeast bank robber

Philadelphia police have arrested a Frankford man in connection with the March 10 robbery of a Northeast bank and credit the news media for helping them identify the suspect.

Raymond Mann, 26, of the 1600 block of Cheltenham Ave., entered the Citizens Bank at 2101 Cottman Ave. at 1:47 p.m., presented a threatening demand note to a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

That evening, investigators released surveillance video and photos of the crime to the news media. A tipster saw the footage on television, recognized the suspect and called police, who arrested Mann on March 12 without incident.

He is charged with robbery and related offenses and is scheduled for a March 29 preliminary hearing.

Nine days before the bank robbery, Mann appeared at a preliminary hearing in connection with a Sept. 12, 2011 robbery. Court records show that the district attorney’s office withdrew that case against Mann, complaining that witnesses failed to show up to testify. ••
