AARP offers driver safety program for mature motorists

Mature motorists can take part in interactive workshops to update their driving skills.

AARP offers a driver safety program to assist “mature” motorists in updating their driving knowledge and skill. The AARP has recognized the need to describe the use and value of the many new safety features on cars so drivers can select and utilize these features correctly to enhance their driving experience.

The Smart DriverTEK program is being presented in a number of cities, including Philadelphia. The AARP has developed a 90-minute presentation on vehicle safety features by assisting people in understanding what these new technologies are designed to do, how they work and how to use them.

These features can include smart headlights, reverse monitoring systems, blind spot warning systems, lane departure warning systems, forward collision warning and emergency braking, drowsy driver alerts, assistive parking and adaptive cruise control.

Interactive workshops will take place on Wednesday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Villages of Pine Valley’s clubhouse, 8540 Verree Road, and on Saturday, July 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital’s main building, Red Lion and Knights roads.

The cost is $5. Participants can register here or by calling 1–877–805–0458. ••
