Swenson student arrested after shooting threat

Swenson Arts & Technology High School was put on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday after a student threatened to shoot up the school.

A Swenson Arts & Technology High School student was arrested Wednesday morning after he threatened to shoot up the school during class, and the building was briefly placed on lockdown, authorities said.

The male student made the threat around 10:45 a.m., and police took him into custody. The school at 2750 Red Lion Road was put on lockdown as officers searched for weapons.

Nothing was found, and no one was hurt. The lockdown was lifted at 11:41 a.m., police said.

The School District of Philadelphia is preparing a letter to send home to families to explain the incident, according to a spokesman. ••
