It’s “Red Friday” in support of the troops at Jimmy’s Timeout

It’s Red Friday each week at Jimmy’s Timeout Sports Pub, 5001 Linden Ave. (at State Road) in East Torresdale.

All staff members wear bright shirts with “RED FRIDAY” and an American flag across the front and “Until They All Come Home” across the back.

Bar patrons can also be seen wearing red shirts and hats on Fridays.

The tradition started two years ago. It’s to “intentionally raise awareness through a simple weekly act of remembrance for our military and their moms, dads, brothers, sisters and families as they selflessly serve the United States of America.”

The effort, Jimmy’s says, is not about politics or wars, “It’s about keeping these men and women close to our hearts.”

Proceeds from shirt sales go directly to care packages that are sent around the world to members of the United States military. The care packages include snacks, toiletries and reminders of home to deployed military.

Owners Jim and Stacie have a son, Dan, who has been serving in the Marine Corps since October 2017. He has been stationed in California and Japan for the last year.

Bar patrons and friends and family of the deployed often send Jimmy’s pictures of themselves wearing red on Fridays while on vacation, down the shore or on the golf course.

Jimmy’s encourages other area bars and restaurants to adopt the tradition and send more care packages to the service men and women from the Northeast. ••
