Brent Celek, Chinese festival bring big crowds to Mayfair

The Mayfair Business Improvement District on Sunday afternoon welcomed a live broadcast of the WIP SportsRadio Go Birds pregame show at Frankford and Cottman avenues.

Go Birds hosts James Seltzer and John Barchard talked about the Eagles at Atlanta Falcons game that night.

The day also included food and drink vendors, the WIP prize wheel and yellow roses handed out by Stein Your Florist.

Meanwhile, the second annual Mid-Autumn Festival stretched along Frankford Avenue from Bleigh Avenue to Cottman Avenue.

Hundreds of Chinese people attended the festival, sponsored by the Northeast Philadelphia Development Corporation, City Councilman Bobby Henon and state Rep. Joe Hohenstein.

The free festival featured dance performances; grilled hot dogs by the 15th Police District Advisory Council’s Pete Specos; moon cake; LED bulbs; balloon art; book giveaways; a moonbounce; vendors; and prize wheels at the Aurora and Excel Home Care tables.

“Having a cultural event and tying it in with the Eagles and the neighborhood is a great formula for success,” said Councilman Al Taubenberger.

Mayfair BID executive director Marc Collazzo invites Eagles fans to the next Go Birds pregame show on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m., before the team’s game at the Green Bay Packers. ••
