School backpacks, voting machine, police report at TBYN meeting

The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association last week welcomed Lt. Marc Rutizer, of the 2nd Police District, and officials from the city elections commissioners office.

The representatives from the commissioners office brought a new voting machine for people to observe. Previously, the office planned to have voters sign in with a stylus instead of in a large book, but the new technology did not pass a test run.

Rutizer provided a crime update and encouraged residents of the 2nd Police District to email concerns to [email protected].

Before and after the meeting, the civic group handed out school backpacks and supplies to students and parents.

An aide to state Sen. Tina Tartaglione invited older constituents and their primary caregivers to two Senior Expos on upcoming Thursdays.

The first will be on Oct. 3, at Lawncrest Recreation Center, 6000 Rising Sun Ave. The second will be on Oct. 10, at Mayfair Community Center, 2990 St. Vincent St.

The time for both events is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be free health screenings and exhibits. Call 215-533-0440. ••
