Taubenberger congratulates Stock’s Bakery on 95 years

City Councilman Al Taubenberger last week presented a citation to Stock’s Bakery.

Taubenberger (R-at large) visited the bakery, 2614 E. Lehigh Ave., on the morning of Dec. 18, and the line of customers stretched on Lehigh to Almond Street.

“It really is an honor for me to present this citation to a family-owned business,” he said. “I urge all Philadelphians to come here.”

Stock’s has been in business in Port Richmond for 95 years. Josef Stock opened the bakery in 1924.

In the 1940s, Frank Stock, Josef’s son, introduced the bakery’s signature baked good – the 2½-pound “bar,” a pound cake, especially popular at Easter and Christmas and for birthdays and weddings.

City Councilman Al Taubenberger is joined by (from left) Stock’s Bakery employees Angelina DeCarles, owner Kristine Stock-DeCarles, Sarah Amrhein and Karleigh Stock.

The public voted Stock’s as “PHL17’s Best Bakery of 2019.” ••
